Aftermath of the Insurgence

The Barbarian Insurgence led to major impacts on the various organizations in the kingdom.

Return to the Old Ways.

The Warriors returned to their ways before the Insurgence. Honor and glory went to the strongest arena fighters and it was every new Warrior's dream and ambition to become the winner of the Reyda Festival. Warriors were still looked upon with mistrust by others for their role in the conflicts and strife that engulfed the kingdom. In the early years following the apparent end of the Insurgence, it was not uncommon for anyone suspected to be a Warrior to be detained by Protectors. No one knew whether the Insurgence would come back. The brief respite and the subsequent resurgence were lessons learnt for authorities not to let their guard down. Over time, the mistrust gradually went away as the people of the kingdom saw no resumption of the Insurgence.

Guild in Disarray.

The death of Guildmaster Morok led to a power struggle within the Guild of Assassins. Morok failed to foresee that he may die prematurely and did not select a successor for his position. After his death, his two Master Handlers started to fight for his position. They began finding opportunities to send their Handlers and Operatives on assassination attempts against one another. With the Master Handlers occupied with waging their shadow warfare, the Guild's businesses and operations came to a halt. The casualties due to the Master Handlers' private war were innumerable as neither of them were able to out-maneuver one other.

King Xath was not willing to send his troops against the Guild members, which was likely to result in unnecessary casualties. King Xath was willing to wait for the power struggle to play out, as long as there was no collateral damage. Unfortunately, without a Guildmaster to access the secret channel of communications, King Xath was unable to utilize the Guild for his own purpose.

Monastery in Ruins.

The Zegon Monastery remained in ruins after the Insurgence. During the Barbarian Warrior attack on the Monastery, Abbott Fryna was escorted away by his personal attendant when it became clear that the Priests did not stand a chance against the bloodthirsty Warriors. Fryna arrived at Lord Kelsius' castle and raised the alarm. Lord Kelsius sent his city's Protectors to aid the Priests. Lord Kelsius offered a room in his castle for Fryna to stay until he can return to the Monastery. However, he left two days later with his personal attendant, leaving behind a note saying that he is going on a pilgrimage. With his whereabouts unknown, the surviving Priests lacked a leader. Directionless, they spread out throughout the kingdom, offering their healing magic to those in need. To ensure that the healing arts will not be lost, many Priests took on students whom they identified to have the gift of the Goddess.

Rebuilding of the Knights.

A month after the destruction of the Hall of the Anointed, a group of knights returned from the expedition with orders from Harlek, among them the order to immediately rebuild the Hall. The construction of the new Hall began a month later.

After returning from the expedition, Harlek commissioned a pure white obelisk to be built in the front courtyard of the new Hall. The obelisk serves as a monument for the squires and knights who lost their lives defending against the Warriors' attack. Having been part of the gathering that fought the Dragon Lord Kathar, Harlek intensified recruitment efforts and implemented a more rigorous training regime so that the kingdom may stand a chance of defeating Kathar should she ever return.

Reorganization of the Protectorate.

The resurgence of the Barbarian Insurgence in the north taught many lessons to Hulzek, High Commander of the Protectorate. Since its inauguration, the Protectorate was separated into nine Division Headquarters, one in each major city of the kingdom. Each Division Headquarters was responsible for the city it is situated in. When the Warriors attacked Znyke, the Protectors from Znyke's Division Headquarters had to hold out against the large horde on their own. Lord Kelsius of Znyke sent a messenger to Xath II for reinforcements and Xath II ordered Hulzek to mobilize some sections of Protectors in neighboring cities to assist Znyke. They arrived in time to help defend against Heldar's siege and eventually crushed it. However, the whole process took a long time.

After Heldar's siege was broken, Hulzek realized the Protectorate was in dire need of reorganization. He ordered several bases to be built in each city, each manned by a section of Protectors. Since the bases were spread throughout each city, the Protectors' responsiveness to any threat was improved. The Division Headquarters began to focus on planning, decision-making and coordinating responses from the bases. The Division Headquarters were now no longer only responsible for their own city and must also be able to mobilize Protectors to support other cities.

A Mistrusted Group.

The long period of strife and unrest caused great mistrust and suspicion among the people of Zegon towards large groups with an offensive predisposition. The mages of the Magi Order wield destructive magic and the people of Zegon feared that such magic can be used against the kingdom. Previously regarded as a secret order that was tolerated at best, members of the Order were now open to detention by Protectors and often severely punished.
