Daryk's Wolves

Origins.

Daryk built a reputation for himself as the Pariah in the Outlands, robbing and stealing from corrupt officials and giving back to the citizens. He became the most wanted person in the kingdom but also a beacon of hope among the resentful citizens who suffered under the officials. He was an unwilling role model to men and women of other towns and villages in the Outlands who chose to become like him. Many of the outlaws also went by the name Pariah to mask their real identity. Most of them were caught eventually by mercenaries hired by their local authorities and many were executed without trial before the Protectorate could intervene in time. Daryk had no choice but to seek out the remaining Pariahs but he was set up and was captured by the First Silent Morok, an agent of Xath.

Morok brought Daryk before Xath, who acknowledged that something must be done about the corruption in the outlands and spoke of his own limitations in bringing the corrupted to justice. Xath released the captured Pariahs to Daryk and ask them to bring justice to the outlands. Daryk and the rest of the Pariahs returned to the Outlands with Xath's promise of assistance provided by Morok's Guild of Assassins.

To the citizens of the Outlands, The Pariah was captured and executed. In his stead, a new band of outlaws known as the Wolves became their new savior.

The Wolves' activities in the Outlands.

In the Kingdom of Zegon, there are many towns and villages where the Palace and the Protectorate held little power in the matters of law. The areas where these towns and villages are located are called the Outlands. Corruption in the Outlands is exceptionally high because of the autonomy the local officials enjoys. It is also not uncommon for corrupt officials to own a private army. Citizens suffer under the control of corrupt officials, while the Palace and the Protectorate watch helplessly.

The sole purpose of Daryk and his Wolves is to pose as a threat towards the corrupt officials of the Outlands. The Wolves will do everything necessary to hinder the endeavors of the corrupt officials and protect the citizens from being exploited.

The Wolves also keep the roads of the Outlands safe by hunting down outlaws and brigands who prey on travelers and locals.

The Wolves and the Guild of Assassins have a tight working relationship, even after the Wolves have disbanded. They share information regarding the people and events in the Outlands with one another. The Wolves gather information and evidence of corruption for the Guild to pass on to the king. In return the Guild will provide resources and sometimes manpower for the Wolves.

Outlaws before and after the Pariah.

Before Daryk began his stint as the Pariah, outlaws were simply vagrants and brigands committing crimes indiscriminately. Following Daryk's exploits as a vigilante, a new breed of outlaws, unanimously calling themselves the Pariah, appeared. This new breed of Pariahs viewed themselves as the people's champions, bringing justice to places where laws meant little and opposing the oppressive and corrupted authorities. When the Wolves was formed, Daryk actively sought out more Pariahs to join his pack. Few actually turned down his offer, as it was an honour for them to run with the First Pariah. The Wolves disbanded after Daryk died. Some of the Wolves reformed in smaller packs, while some continued alone. Even after they were disbanded, the former Wolves and their successors continued to receive assistance from the Guild. New Pariahs continued to appear in the Outlands as the population of Zegon increased and new towns and villages were settled.

The Wolves and the Path of the Pariah.

Pariahs are the mysterious heroes of the Outlands. They have a good reputation among the citizens of the Outlands. However, all Pariahs started with a humble beginning, serving the people thanklessly and often misunderstood. As the citizens start to learn of them, and their deeds, their reputation will also improve. Pariahs are commonly addressed in the Outlands, based on their reputation among the citizens, using the titles Outlaw, Vigilante, Ranger, and Lone Wolf.

It is very difficult for Pariahs to gain the trust of the citizens. Pariahs will always begin their journey on the Path as a common outlaw, living in danger and fear of being caught everyday. They must strive to make their deeds known to gain a positive image yet staying anonymous and mysterious. They must maintain the balance or risk being captured by authorities.
